Alignment Appearance: a stocky built man with short salt & pepper hair and lightly tanned skin. Possesses chain tattoos all across his arms and legs joined on his chest near the heart. Background: born in ancient Greece, Lumicles's family were indentured servants assigned to the roman legion. At a very young age, he was tattooed with chain patterns designating his social standing for life and once he was old enough to not necessitate a mother’s care, he was separated from his parents. He was quickly indoctrinated to his status and, being treated more like a tool or an accessory, quickly learned to keep his head down and keep to himself. Being assigned as a servant of a military legion, he was quickly exposed to the horrors of war and its repercussions on the human psyche. Assuming conflict was the norm of the world he learned to become wary of strangers and was slow to trust unknown people or factors and that an enemy combatant should never be spared lest he comes back with a vengeance. Once he became a young teenager, he was assigned to support the troops in whatever capacity was necessary. Sometimes, he was required to move heavy equipment, build barricades, serve food, go hunt or scavenge and anything else that would be ordered of him except for combat. His favorite task was to go out and hunt or forage for food. This resulted in him becoming quite adept at navigating forest areas, make-shifting basic hunting equipment and traps and thriving in nature in general even managing to tame a few wild animals. This also became the few moments of his life when he tasted a moment of relative freedom and he always looked forward to the next one, always volunteering whenever he could.
Over the years, in his mid-teens, he was given a few more liberties and was allowed to join the legionaries training and exercises. He did push himself very hard and gained a fair amount of skills with the gladius, shield and bows but his skills and physical capabilities paled in comparison to the trained professional soldiers which left him with a certain sense of inadequacy. He was good but not good enough. It did make him aware and appreciative of the value of teamwork and camaraderie. In his early 20s, he met Aria. She was a young adult and a recently captured prisoner of War assigned to the higher ranking members of the camp. She happened to meet with him regularly at the food galley to acquire food for the masters. As her new circumstances were new to her, she was unaccustomed to hard working conditions and Lumicles uncharacteristically took it upon himself to help her. There, he showed her the ropes and tried to teach her as best as he could how to serve properly without drawing too much attention to herself. She, as she came from a scholar family, returned the favor by teaching him calligraphy, mathematics and mythical stories of old along with their respective pantheon. Although silly in hindsight those stories and legends caused him to become extremely puzzled and wary of the gods. He sometimes wondered why they, with their apparent limitless power, would allow the world to become such an atrocious and harsh place to live.
Over the years, He and Aria grew close and eventually fell in love. Eventually, She became pregnant. Realizing He could not bear the idea of their child to either be taken from them or subjected to a similar life of servitude, lumicles made plans with Aria to make their escape. Over a cloudy night, confidently trusting the skills and knowledge he acquired over the years would be enough to let him survive in the wild, lumicles stole a gladius(short sword) from the camp’s armory and snuck out of the camp with his pregnant lover . They made good distance but their absence was noticed very quickly and they were given chase. They ran deep into the closest forest available to them and eventually stopped by a sudden cliff overlooking a small lake. The pursuing soldiers were almost upon them and they could hear the hunting dogs barking a few hundred meters behind them. Then, Lumicles heard a deep baritone voice echo in his mind. "It is time, child, come hither and fulfill thine destiny." With this, an unknown force pushed umicles and Aria over the cliff falling into the lake. When he hit the water, everything became dark and he lost consciousness. After an unspecified amount of time, Lumicles woke up on the cold hard ground, wearing nothing but his thin servant clothes and his stolen gladius tied by a cord to his waist. Aria seemingly gone...
